The Art Vacancy is proud to present Chirurgie Poétique, a solo exhibition of works by Paris-based artist Serapis, curated by Sáng Huynh. The exhibition will take place from March 27 to April 27, 2025, at 51 Avenue Gambetta, 75020 Paris, with an opening vernissage on March 27 from 18H to 22H.
In this captivating body of work, Serapis transforms the canvas into an operating theater—where paint becomes a surgical instrument and emotion the raw material. Through layered compositions blending precision with poetry, Serapis explores the tensions between chaos and order, light and shadow. The works invite viewers into a visceral exploration of memory, perception, and transformation.
Inspired by Eastern philosophy, Serapis constructs abstract compositions that balance spontaneity with control. Each painting unfolds through a meticulous layering process—akin to an archaeological excavation—revealing raw emotional truths and the complexities of the human condition.
Curated by Sáng Huynh, Chirurgie Poétique offers a powerful dialogue between art and emotion, inviting the audience to confront the spaces between consciousness and feeling. Rather than providing answers, the exhibition poses profound questions about inner landscapes and personal transformation.
Born in Brazzaville, Congo (1983), Serapis trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Beauvais and pursued advanced studies in Paris. His multidisciplinary background spans founding the fashion brand Grafikcube (2008–2011) and working as a director and motion designer in the fashion and music industries (2011–2019). The COVID-19 pandemic marked a renewed focus on painting, deepening his artistic practice.
His notable exhibitions include:
Expo Morpho (Saint-Ouen, 2022)
Expo L’artic (Paris, 2022)
Expo Civil Love (Paris, 2024)
Serapis continues to push the boundaries of visual expression, bridging the personal and universal through his evolving body of work.
